Reg.: Appeal to Shelve BMIC Project permanently

Respected Sir,

As a concerned citizen and a frequent visitor to Bangalore and Karnataka, it is my duty to express my displeasure of the ill-planned projects, current and past, undertaken by the state - be it the BMIC or on the other hand the ""illegal"" mining in the Kudremukh. I AM CONFIDENT THAT UNDER YOUR ABLE LEADERSHIP, KARNATAKA WILL BECOME A BEACON OF HOPE TO INDIA, BE IT SOFTWARE EXPORTS OR ""HUMAN RIGHTS"". YES, HUMAN RIGHTS. I IMPLORE YOU TO BECOME ""THE"" CHAMPION OF THE FARMER, THE COMMON MAN; OF EVERY MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD IN THIS GREAT STATE.

Please allow me to bring forth and endorse the appeal made by the Environment Support Group of Bangalore

Yours sincerely,

sd/

" Nowhere in the world you can find such a -------- website (www.nicelimited.com) which does not tell even a single line of what they are doing. No wonder a few individuals profit very big time from these ventures and no wonder Mercedes and BMWs are top selling cars in Bangalore. You are doing a great job in opposing this useless/damaging/spineless project"

"I strongly endorse ESG's appeal against the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project proposed by M/s Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise Ltd. (www.nicelimited.com). As a Bangalorean who has a great love for the city, and as an NRI who hopes to return to Bangalore, I feel the BMIC project is highly flawed from an environmental and social point of view. The alternate proposal along the Bangalore-Mysore corridor (and other such proposals) which you yourself favour, appear less devastating and more practical. Please do consider such alternate proposals, as against such sweeping and potentially disasterous projects like the BMIC. Similar projects are no longer even considered in the United States and Europe, where there are more resources and land available"

"We appeal to you (the CM) to take an appropriate decision in the interest of all. Promoting a Railway corridor would be a better idea , alternative simultaneously strengthening and rationalizing the existing road links between Bangalore and Mysore- 4 laning of SH 17 would be a feasible alternative ."

Dear Mr. Chief Minister,

I strongly endorse the appeal made by the Environment Support Group to drop the Bangalore Mysore Industrial Corridor proposal altogether. Widening the existing road and improving the rail link to Mysore would be a more balanced alternative. Please find the appeal attached to this e-mail. I would greatly appreciate your consideration of this appeal.

"Sir,

I am very glad you are going ahead with the widening of the current Bangaloe-Mysore highway (SH-17). At the same time, I urge you to abandon the BMIC project. I am endorsing the appeal from ESG which is attached.

I also request you to ensure that the KRDCL and the forest dept ensure planting of native species of trees in place of thousands of old wonderful trees felled since January of 2003, for widening the SH-17.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

Respected Sir,

I have had the opportunity to follow developments regarding the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project proposed by M/s Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise Ltd. (www.nicelimited.com). I have also had a chance to note your own opinions on this matter in various press statements. Further, the recent High Court decision to quash land acquisition for townships, while allowing for construction of the peripheral road, link road, service road, and ramps, raises the question of a sharp increase in toll rates to offset decline in revenues that the townships would have generated. These roads, simply put, will be out of reach of a majority of people.

I would like to endorse ESG's (Environment Support Group) appeal to shelve the BMIC project immediately, and urge you to take further steps towards improving the existing highway system between Bangalore and Mysore.

Sincerely,
Aswin Punathambekar.
