RE: IFC involvement in the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project (BMICP)

Dear Ms. Iskenderian

Environment Support Group is a non-profit public interest research and campaign organisation working on various issues of environmental and social justice concerns. Over the years we have been reviewing various projects from this point of view.

We write to enquire about the IFC’s involvement in the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project (BMICP) being promoted by the consortium Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) Ltd. This particularly given that from our review of IFC’s website, no mention is made of committing funds to the BMICP.

However, the Survey of Investment Projects of the Centre for Monitoring of Indian Economy has consistently reported since May 2000 that “In June 1999, International Finance Corpn. (IFC) along with several southeast Asia financiers decided to take part in financing the project. IFC and others will participate in mezzanine debt route for the project.”

In this regard, we seek your earliest response clarifying the nature of IFC’s involvement in the BMICP and also providing us with copies of any documentation that would be available for public review.
