Checklist if you see a tree being cut

  1. No of tree(s)
  2. Type of tree
  3. Age of the tree (you can count the rings in the trunk if it is cut)
  4. Exact location of tree
  5. Tree Number (if any-embossed on the trunk)
  6. Nature of the land (Whether public, private or civic amenity site. Tree cutting even on private land needs permission)
  7. Condition of tree
  8. Reason given for the cutting of tree
  9. If possible take photographs

List of trees exempted from permission for cutting in pvt land

According to Sec 8 (7) of the Karnataka Preservation of Trees (Amendment) Act, 1987, trees exempted from permission for cutting in pvt land:

  1. Silver Oak (Grevillea robusta)
  2. Eucalyptus
  3. Coconut
  4. Subabul
  5. Casuarina (Casuarina equisetifolia; Sirvey in Kannada)
  6. Hopea wightina (Aiga in Kannada)
  7. Rubber (malnad type, which secretes milk)
  8. Sesbania
  9. Glyrecidia (Gobbarada Gida)
  10. Prosipis
  11. Erythrina
