King Khan reigned supreme
Shahrukh Khan conquered Bangalore with his signature style and smile.

Shahrukh Khan literally had the Bangaloreans eating out of his kingly palms by playing to the gallery during the ‘Temptations 2005’ show last Sunday.

Metrolife spoke to King Khan back stage for some quick savory bites.

The President of Sanghamitra Foundation Ramesh revealed that it took him almost four months to chase you to confirm this show. Why so long?

Ramesh is a dear friend. I know him since ages. I am sure he was not complaining as such things do take time for planning and adjustment with your other normal, preplanned schedules and commitments.

The ‘rain gods’ played truant the first time. So how could you re-adjust the quick dates of just a fortnight away?

It took my entire team almost two hours to rack our brains amidst the pouring showers. But they all worked it out and we had announced it there and then.

But more than the commitments for the Sanghamitra Foundation we thought that we owed it more to our fans in Bangalore and I did not want to disappoint them by totally canceling the show. So we all opted for a postponement.

Normally such shows are held for humanistic and charitable causes. This one is for building a gigantic Buddha statue. Did you believe in this cause?

Yes I did or else I would not be doing the show.

You played to the gallery and to the hilt. Right?

Right. But what difference does it make? You can see that the fans enjoyed it to the hilt and they were still craving for more. I wish I had six instead of the allotted three hours. At the end of the day all that matters is that the show turns out to be a grand success and all my fans go back home completely satisfied and with a warm feeling of happiness.

In every show actors repeat the same clichéd lines of the fans being the best audience in the globe. You did the same.

Yeah! But it also differs in every city. Sometimes we do not get the same response. I agree that sometimes the audiences pretend, sometimes even we do.

But in case of Bangalore, I saw their genuine feelings during the first time itself. In spite of the ‘rainy’ odds they had all stuck through for hours together in the heavy downpour.

And they came back in full strengths. That apart, this time neither of us pretended. And I myself, Lara and Zayed do have a special affinity for Bangalore as we all belong here. For them, it’s their hometown.

As for me, I have spent the greater part of my childhood here. In fact, part of my family still stays here and they had all come for the show.

But there are still some who believe that an SRK show is fast turning into a predictable routine?

Is it so? The important thing is that my fans enjoyed. Yes even the predictable routine of picking up fans at random to do a jig with me on stage.

Normally, I pick up one fan but this time I picked three. And believe me they were not planted. My second predictable routine is becoming a bit naughty on stage. So what? I do what my fans really want me to do. Period.
